The Rua team had a fantastic experience at Orana Park on Monday. The Educators were wonderful and inspired the students to make a 'difference' with Endangered animals. The students learnt a new acronyom- 'HIPPO' The H is for habitat loss I for introduced species, P for pollution, other P for population growth of humans and the O for over-exploration. We were all blown away by the Western Gorillas- what an amazing intelligent animal. We were all lucky that Harriet the giraffe was in a hungry mood, feeding her was a real up close and personal experience.

The Rua Team are really looking forward to our trip to Orana Park on Monday 5th September as part of our Inquiry Unit on Endangered Animals.  We are specifically looking at what effect people have on their habitats and how we can help protect them.
Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help make this trip possible.  Remember parents are welcome - if you book through the school it is only $15 for adults.  If you turn up on the day it is $30 entry.

Recycle Plastics

Lesley came to visit to tell us about a new initiative for recycling plastic bags, foiled chippy packets, clean glad wrap - in fact any plastic that can be scrunched into a ball. These can then be taken to any of the supermarkets or the Warehouse.  There is a factory in Ashburton that recycles the plastics into furniture, signs etc.  Let's join the new craze and save our planet.

Sharing ANZAC Poems

Some children from the Rua Team got to share the amazing poems they wrote while they were in Mrs Harnett's class for writing.

Mother's Day

The children were really proud of their Mother's Day cards.  They wrote fantastic metaphors about their mothers to go in the card.

Mum is a garden.  She is pretty like a flower and smells like roses.
Mum is vacuum cleaner.  She cleans up after me.
Mum is a rainbow.  She is colourful and beautiful.
Mum is a jewel.  She sparkles and shines.
Mum is a teddy bear.  She is soft and cuddles me lots.
Mum is a family photo.  She gives me lots of memories.
Mum is a friendship bracelet.  She is always my friend.
Mum is a heart.  She gives lots of love.
Mum is a star.  She lights up my life.

ANZAC Day

We wrote senses about War to develop our understanding of what it was like to be a soldier in the war.

Sports Spectacular

What a wonderful day we had at Southbrook Park experiencing so many different sports and activities. Thanks to parents for walking us there and back.  I bet there were a lot of very tired children, (and teachers and parents too).

Assembly

Congratulations to our Rua award winners - what a great example you set our team.

Bubbles

The science guys were very entertaining when we learnt about mixtures, why helium bubbles fly up yet normal bubbles go down and why carbon dioxide bubbles drop quickly.

Science in a Van

The Tahi and Rua Teams loved our lesson on gravity. We learnt that some forces can be stronger than the force of gravity and can stop things from falling to the ground.
